New products and updates
After obtaining hosting with Infomaniak, one of our strong points is the ongoing development of your hosting and the tools provided in this environment.
A website that has been hosted for several years will have the advantage of the same PHP version as a new customer who has just registered the hosting, and this has applied to all our customers since 1996.
This technology also allows us to move your web site to newer servers or servers that are less in demand in a transparent manner, so that we can guarantee you the best quality of service at all times.

New version of our file manager
You may already be using it? A new file manager is available in your administration console or at http://admin2.infomaniak.com/ftp/. Its use will give you the possibility of managing the content of your hosting like FTP client software but without a web browser. Its features are amongst others:
- browsing in your disk space directories
- transferring files both ways
- handling existing files (copy, rename, move …) and their licenses and owners
- creating files
- editing and previewing word files, .htaccess, php, html...
For several weeks, the previous version will coexist with this new tool in your administration console before we remove it for good.

Your data is secure at Infomaniak
For some years now we’ve been bringing several improvements in the managing of your back ups, like a permanent access to them via an administrator FTP account : you will find, one level before /web in a directory called "backups", an image of the past 7 days for all your files and database ( http://www.infomaniak.com/support/faq/faq_home.php?&faq=250 ).
At present, we own 2 datacenters; all data regarding your hosting are stored on servers spread between both our datacenters. It’s important we let you know that for some months now, we’ve been backing up all data located in our first datacenter’s servers onto our second datacenter, and likewise conversely. We wanted you to know it, as we’ve added this item in our hosting terms and conditions ( http://hosting.infomaniak.com/terms-conditions/ ; articles 1 and 11 modified accordingly).

PHP 5.3 is available
This new PHP version has been available for the past 6 months in your administration console. The previous 5.2 version becoming slowly obsolete, we recommend you switched to the new version from your administration console https://admin.infomaniak.com (under Tools > PHP migration). At stake, several security and performance improvements:
- a better memory management
- a better support of the more recent major CMS versions
Be careful however as some rare scripts (CMS, CRM, etc.) or PHP functions aren’t compatible with this new version. Please read carefully the existing material, starting with our FAQ ( http://www.infomaniak.com/support/faq/faq_home.php?&faq=1431 ), giving you the correct procedures.

A new webmail is coming up
From April 2nd, we will be offering a new version of our home team developed webmail. We’ve taken into consideration all your remarks and suggestions, so this new version will revolutionize the current one ( https://webmail.infomaniak.com ). Amongst others, here is some new featuring you will find:
- configuring and checking several email accounts via one user ID
- sharing different address books and agendas with your team
- synchronizing your contacts and agendas with your smartphones or other messaging software
- dragging and dropping your messages in your files, and dragging and dropping your attachments straight from your desk to your messages while writing them
- automatic saving of your draft messages
- previewing attachments
This new version will give us the possibility to eventually offer you a Webmail equivalent to an Exchange server (sharing of contacts, agendas and files between colleagues) but without the constraint of buying a costly license or owning a server in your offices, and that without any extra cost for your hosting.
This new tool won’t only be powerful but it will evolve very regularly and without intermission ; a team of designers will work continuously on the evolution of our product. We can already share with you some of the evolutions that will be inserted by the end of the year: file sharing between users and sharing attachments via an external link to avoid size limitations of attachments in the sent messages.
Please note that the current webmail https://webmail.infomaniak.com will remain accessible until the end of the year to leave you and your team time to get used to the new version.
A Beta version will be available until April 2nd. An invitation will be sent by email in due time for you to discover and familiarize yourself with this new version before it becomes available in its full version to all your domain’s addresses.

Infomaniak’ terms and conditions updated on 01/09/2011
Our terms and conditions, which you can find at http://www.infomaniak.com, have undergone a few changes, mainly to articles 11 and 13, in which case we will now endeavour to apply the decisions from OECD member countries instead of just restricting ourselves to Swiss legal authorities.

MySQL slowlogs
In addition to the usual logs that you can find on your FTP space (complete web logs and ftp logs), we now provide a new document that is very useful for enhancing your site: the slowlog. A MySQL slowlog groups queries that take more than 5 seconds to execute. Until now it was only supplied to you in the event of an overload caused by your queries that gave rise to alerts sent to our technical teams. From now on you will be able to find this document directly on the FTP space under the logs folder, one level above /web. Also note that slowlogs are only generated when necessary; if your queries are all made perfectly, then you will never see these files!

The PHP memory limit changes up to 96Mb using PHP 5.2 and 128Mb using PHP 5.3
We restrict scripts with regard to memory and execution time for reasons of security and performance on shared machines. For example, an infinite loop due to a programming error will take up a huge amount of resources and penalize all the customers who share the same machine.
While the maximum was previously 64MB, you hosting will only be permanently restricted to a maximum of 96MB in memory and 10 seconds in execution time for a script. These settings have been chosen to allow normal operation for most scripts, and shared hosting that runs smoothly and is fair, regardless of whether the site has little traffic or a lot.
You have the option of unblocking these limits temporarily (for one hour) to allow, for example, installation of a CMS that requires more resources for the initial phase. The values will then be 5 minutes for the time limit for execution and 128MB for memory. To do so, go to your admin console, under Tools > Memory and time limit for executing scripts.
You also have the possibility to change up permanently to 128Mb if you transfer your website to a PHP 5.3 server. In that prospect, we highly recommend you read *carefully* the following FAQ before you start any sort of transfer request from your admin console, https://admin.infomaniak.com, under the section Outils ("Tools") and then Migration PHP ("PHP transfer"). All existing scripts aren't yet totally compatible and it is *crucial* that your website be entirely tested before any process is launched. For that, you need to have an Apache server as well as PHP on your own home system, and to install a copy of your website to check that it works perfectly under PHP 5.3.
Where more technical details are concerned, cgiwrap, the wrapper for executing CGI, has been deployed on our shared servers with a new memory limit of 128MB instead of 64MB.

The tools that we provide for you are undergoing development! This time it is our file manager, which goes back 10 years and has now undergone a complete overhaul. Similar to conventional FTP client software, it allows you to manage the contents of your hosted sites online:
- browse directories on the disk
- transfer files in both directions
- handle existing files (copy, rename, move ...) and their permissions
- create files
- edit and preview text, php, html files....
This tool is available on your admin console in the FTP > file manager menu or at the address https://admin2.infomaniak.ch/ftp

7 versions of your site available on the server
It has already been possible to recover the backups of your databases on the server for some time, in a folder dedicated specially to these backups. As from now it is possible to also recover your entire website, 7 versions of it corresponding to the last seven days. Obviously this concerns sites that are still active on our servers (a cancelled site cannot be reinstalled this way). You will find the last 7 backups on your FTP space in the /backups folder above /web.

Update on our ecological charter
Around 2 years ago, we implemented an ecological charter that included more than 30 very specific commitments ( http://www.infomaniak.ch/ecology/ ) for example:
• using 100% hydroelectric power for all our data centres and offices. • electric-powered company vehicle • bicycles available to our staff when they have to travel around.
Our commitments to reduce our company’s environmental footprint are improved regularly. Here, for example, are two new measures that have come into force this year:
• Our new pension fund for all our staff contributions has been certified as ecological and ethical (www.nest-info.ch ) • We offset CO2 emissions by the company, to include our employees’ transport to their place of work right down to offsetting the CO2 used to manufacture the servers we buy, for example (myclimate certification, http://www.myclimate.org/fr.html )
We invite you to read the pages on our site that describe our company’s project in striving to respect our environment to the maximum.
